Invitational: Screenprint Biennial - Opalka Gallery (Albany, NY)) and Janet Turner Museum of Printmaking (Chico, CA) The Screenprint Biennial is an exhibition and organization that seeks to showcase a range of screenprint-based art applications, from framed, editioned prints to installation, sculpture, video, ephemera, posters, and more. The exhibition does not seek to act as a survey or “who’s-who” of screenprinting, but to assemble a show that is consistent in highlighting artists who utilize adventurous, relevant, and passionate takes on the screenprinted medium.

Residency: Art Print Residence (Barcelona, Spain) Art Print Residence offers the convenience of being close to the city with the peace and quiet of a rural setting. We are self-funded and do not rely on grants for our sustainability. Our organization was founded in 1992 but we have been operating under its name since 2012. The living spaces are joined to the studio and surrounded by a beautiful garden. Accommodation in the residency consists of private/shared rooms in a shared apartment. Our fully-equipped studio is a comfortable place to work in. We offer access to specialist printmaking equipment for experienced printmakers and a wide range of courses in printmaking for those new to the processes. We provide the artists with a large variety of printmaking tools, papers for printing, plates, and other supplies required for the processes. We have 5 intaglio printing presses, plus one relief printing press and another for letterpress. Art Print Residence hosts independent workshops and residencies, especially those focused on large-scale printing.

Exhibition / Colaboration: WANT/MORE, Public Works Arts Center (Summerville, SC) Impulsive acquisitions, giving and receiving, a sense of what is deserved, owed, and only right, WANT MORE elevates surfaces into seductive invitations and mysterious points of inquiry. Through repetitive investigations of motives and materials, objects are offered up to be scrutinized, quantified, and assigned value. Grids feature heavily, embracing the multiple as a nod to historical printing processes as they dominate the space. Building upon the intimacy of presence, ritual, and obsession, objects are preoccupied with surface texture, quality, and variety then positioned for viewing as the ultimate, and optimal, pleasure. Color is vice. Removing the compulsion toward a full-spectrum palette, a singular color obsession is achieved. This exclusive, vibrant hue is exalted into a visual indulgence, collecting the space into a cohesive movement where forms and elements become relentlessly, satisfyingly objectified. Leaning heavily on accumulation, technique, dedicated line quality, and a meticulous process, WANT MORE entices the viewer into taking equal gratification in the knowing and eternal search for more. - Myles Calvert and Tamara LaValla

Conference: Southern Graphics Council International (Providence, RI) The SGC International annual conference brings together over 1,000 printmakers and arts professionals in all stages of their careers. We look forward to bringing our Conference back to New England for the first time since SGC 2003 Boston: Making Histories: Revolution & Representation. Providence is a city that has historically been a refuge for dissidents and a stronghold in the battle for individual freedoms. It is a city where print is celebrated in all its forms, from conceptual art to communication design. Printmaking often intersects with other media in Providence’s rich artistic community, which is host to a variety of creative spaces ranging from traditional academic settings to community shops and maker/DIY spaces. We are so excited to bring together this conference that will encourage cross pollination and celebrate the broad scope of printmaking, graphic media, and independent publishing.

Invitational: Cain Center for the Arts, Director's Choice (Cornelius, NC) Cain Center’s Visual Arts and Education Director Simone El Bey has curated a special exhibit showcasing local artists that we have come to love as an organization. This hand-selected group of artists share more than a love for visual arts with our team. These artists believe in our mission, and, more importantly, our commitment to the community. This exhibit includes artwork from various mediums, with each artist supporting Cain Center for the Arts with their submission. The Director’s Choice Exhibit celebrates Cain Center’s Community Impact Programs, and 50% of the proceeds made from the exhibit will support the continuation and expansion of these initiatives. The other 50% will go to the exhibiting artists in support of our local visual arts community. Private viewings may be available upon request.

Exhibition: Elder Gallery of Contemporary Art is thrilled to present Disrupting the Matrix, the gallery’s first exhibition exclusively dedicated to the practice of printmaking. Featuring fifteen artists working in traditional and experimental methods of printmaking, Disrupting the Matrix will investigate a robust spectrum of practices and techniques, presenting a survey of printmaking that disrupts and exceeds conventional perceptions of what printmaking is or is not. Likewise, each artist’s work will offer unique visual and conceptual commentaries that challenge the conventionally understood matrix of our world. Through the exploration of topics such as the human condition, sublimity, politics, social systems, race, language, and the psychology of self, ‘Disrupting the Matrix’ will provide an educational and insightful review of printmaking at the intersection of technique and narrative. Disrupting the Matrix will also feature a community-driven companion exhibition, Impressions, which will highlight works in printmaking by recent graduates of the University of North Carolina Charlotte. Featuring: Carla Aaron-Lopez, Stephanie Berrie, Bebonkwe Brown, Myles Calvert, Zuzanna Dyrda, Bree Gant, Beth Grabowski, Anna Kenar, Heather Muise, Althea Murphy-Price, Karen Oremus, Chadwick Tolley, Erik Waterkotte, Sir Will, and Koichi Yamamoto
